Knitting Pattern – Spiral Hat
How to knit a simple hat with a spiral pattern?

What do I need?
- Gazzal Worm Merino Wool – about 100 to 110 grams
- Circular Knitting Needles – 40 cm, 8.00mm
- Double-pointed needles – 8.00mm
- Darning needle for weaving in ends
The Beginning
Cast on 71 stitches onto the circular needle and join in the round.
Mark the beginning of the round with a stitch marker.
The “Straight” Part
Now knit 4 stitches knit, 4 stitches purl, alternating.
This results in 18 sections, always alternating between knit and purl stitches.
This causes the pattern to "shift" by 1 stitch to the left in each round, creating the spiral pattern.
Always move the stitch marker to the next round.
When is the hat long enough?
The hat must be knitted straight (i.e. without decreases) until it reaches the top of the head.
Of course, the hat can also be knitted longer, for example, if you want to fold it up.
The Decreases
Round 1:
decrease 1 stitch in each section of knit stitches, so 3 knit stitches instead of 4 per section.
Continue to knit the sections with purl stitches with 4 stitches.
→ 9 decreases, so 62 stitches
Round 2:
decrease 1 stitch in each section of purl stitches, so 3 purl stitches instead of 4 per section.
Continue to knit the sections with purl stitches with 3 stitches.
→ 9 decreases, so 53 stitches
Round 3:
decrease 1 stitch in each section of knit stitches, so 2 knit stitches instead of 3 per section.
Continue to knit the sections with purl stitches with 3 stitches.
→ 9 decreases, so 44 stitches
– now it’s time to switch to double-pointed needles as soon as the circular needle is too large –
Round 4:
decrease 1 stitch in each section of purl stitches, so 2 purl stitches instead of 3 per section.
Continue to knit the sections with purl stitches with 2 stitches.
→ 9 decreases, so 35 stitches
From now on, everything is knitted in knit stitch
From now on, knit 1 stitch, 1 decrease (knit 2 stitches together), until 8 stitches remain at the end.
Now use a darning needle to pull the yarn through the remaining 8 stitches, pull tight, and weave in the end.
Weave in the starting yarn as well.
